A family favorite for generations, this Best Loved Mayonnaise Cake is one of those easy dessert recipes that has stood the test of time. You may think it odd to use mayo in your chocolate cake recipes, but this additional ingredient makes all the difference. This cake is incredibly moist and so rich in flavor you won't be able to resist having a second slice!

Ingredients

2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
4 tablespoons (heaping) cocoa
2 teaspoons baking soda
pinch salt
1 cup water
1 cup mayonnaise
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In large mixing bowl sift together dry ingredients.
Add wet ingredients. Mix until smooth (about 2 minutes).
Pour into greased and floured pan (8" x 8", 9" x 9", or tube pan). Bake for 35-45 minutes. Use toothpick test.

This is the best cake ever. My mother used to make this when I was a small girl and when I grew up I past this on to my girls and our family thinks this is the best chocolate cake ever.

My Mom used to make this cake when I was growing up. It was absolutely our favorite cake. With a chocolate butter cream frosting, this is the best chocolate cake around.
