Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup chocolate sundae topping
  • 1/2 cup coconut
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, chopped
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 9-inch cake pan.
     
  2. Prepare pastry by blending together the flour and salt.
     
  3. Cream together the brown sugar with the butter, egg yolks and vanilla. Blend in the dry ingredients.
     
  4. Press into the bottom of prepared pan.
     
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes.
     
  6. Prepare topping by beating the egg whites until they form stiff peaks.
     
  7. Blend in the all purpose flour, and sundae topping. Stir in the coconut, cherries and nuts.
     
  8. Spread over baked crust and return to oven and bake for an additional 18-20 minutes.
     
  9. Cool and cut into bars.
