Cry Baby Cookies
They're your cookies and you can cry if you want to. Cry Baby Cookies are a nice little pick me up. Try making these yummy cookies and watch your mood turn right around! It's amazing what a delicious cookie can do.
Notes
Measure 7/8 of a cup by filling a liquid measuring cup slightly below the 1 cup level.

Ingredients
- 1 cup Crisco
- 3 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup molasses
- 7/8 cup boiling water
- 1 egg
- 3 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 5 cups of flour
Instructions
- Throughly cream shortening and sugar.
- Add molasses, egg, salt, spices, and beat until blended.
- Stir together water and soda and add to first mixture.
- Stir in flour and drop from spoon onto a greased baking sheet.
- Bake 350 degress F. 10-15 minutes.

In the US 1 cup butter or margarine equals 1 cup Crisco plus 2 tablespoons water. You will get a softer, chewier cookie using Crisco, which is a vegetable shortening. Crisco also comes in butter flavor which is a plus!!

I'm only guessing, but with the shortening and not butter I would guess they would be on the softer side.

My Mother used to make these for my Father who loved them when I was a child many years ago. As I recall they are on the soft side but rather chewey.
