Orange Ginger Cookies
Before Christmas became the tradition it is today, oranges and ginger cakes were a rare gift for European children. Orange Ginger Cookies commemorate that tradition with the original flavors in the form of these citrus spice cookies.

Yields about 5 dozen cookies.
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
- 1 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 cups flour
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Combine butter, sugar, egg yolk, orange peel, ginger, vanilla and salt, mix well.
- Stir in flour to form a soft dough.
- Fill cookie press with dough. Press into desired shapes on ungreased cookie sheets; decorate as desired.
- Bake in a preheated 400F oven for 10 minutes, until set but not brown.

I tried this recipe because the flavor combination sounded great, but I was really disappointed. They had no flavor, I tasted no orange or ginger. I even added extra orange peel, but they had no flavor. The cookies also would not stick to the pan when using the cookie press. I will not be making them again.
