Ingredients

3/4 cup butter or margarine
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
1 cup dates or raisins
3 cups corn flakes (or other cereal flakes)
15 to 30 maraschino cherries, halved or quartered, blotted dry

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Cream butter and sugar together in bowl.
Beat in eggs. Stir in dry ingredients, nuts, and fruits. Mix well.
Shape into small balls. Crush cornflakes into crumbs.
Roll balls in crumbs. Place in greased baking sheet.
Top with half or quarter cherry.

Bake for 10-12 minutes.

My aunt gave this recipe to my mother probably in the 1950's and it has been a favorite of our family ever since. At Christmas we decorate the top with some red and some green cherries. Still being made by the 3rd and 4th generations.
