Cherry Winks
This cookie recipe is one heck of a unique blend of ingredients, including maraschino cherries and cornflakes. Try making up these Cherry Winks and introduce a new cookie at your next holiday gathering!

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
- 1 cup dates or raisins
- 3 cups corn flakes (or other cereal flakes)
- 15 to 30 maraschino cherries, halved or quartered, blotted dry
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Cream butter and sugar together in bowl.
- Beat in eggs. Stir in dry ingredients, nuts, and fruits. Mix well.
- Shape into small balls. Crush cornflakes into crumbs.
- Roll balls in crumbs. Place in greased baking sheet.
- Top with half or quarter cherry.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes.

My aunt gave this recipe to my mother probably in the 1950's and it has been a favorite of our family ever since. At Christmas we decorate the top with some red and some green cherries. Still being made by the 3rd and 4th generations.
