Sugar and Spice Cut Out Cookies

Ingredients
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 teaspoons nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 2 eggs
Instructions
- Mix flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder together until well blended. Add margarine, butter, or shortening.
- Use hands and work into dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. You may store this mixture in an air tight container in refrigerator until ready to use.
- When you are ready to bake the cookies, preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Combine spices, vinegar, and beaten eggs thoroughly. Add spice mixture to refrigerated cookie mix.
- Roll out or shape on wax paper to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut desired shapes and transfer to greased or parchment-lined baking sheets.
- Bake about 6 minutes. Do not brown. Cool one minute and then remove to rack.
- Store in an airtight container. Eat plain or decorate with frosting, candies, sprinkles, etc.
