Barbecued Spoonburgers
Yes, folks, you read that right: Barbecued Spoonburgers. Quite possibly the most unconventional of all slow cooker sandwich recipes, these burgers are spooned onto buns. Make sure you have napkins nearby!

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup celery, diced
- 1/2 green pepper, chopped
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup catsup
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 pinch pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 can (3-ounce) tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
Instructions
- Brown ground beef in hot shortening in a skillet, discard excess fat.
- Put all ingredients in slow cooker, stir thoroghly.
- Cover and cook on Low 6 - 8 hours (or High 3 - 4 hours).
- Spoon into split, warmed hamburger buns or serve over mashed potatoes or rice.

I live in the midwest and discovered Iowa loose meat when I moved here. The real ones don't have the ketsup though. The meat is mostly just simmered in a beef broth. They are definitely yummo though.

These are also known as Loose Meat Sandwiches here in the midwest. They're especially popular in Iowa. And good, too.
