If you want fewer canned/processed foods, try cooking your own pinto beans and making refried without the fat; you might just leave out the Ranch style beans. Also, instead of Rotel, you can use finely chopped tomatoes with fresh peppers. Instead of Taco seasoning, try using chili powder; you end up with a lot less salt. We use a layer of ground meat (I use ground turkey) that has been browned and drained with the chili powder added then reheated for a little with the chili powder in it. I would just use sour cream and leave out the mayo. Layer it:: beans, ground meat, tomatoes with (or without) peppers, green onions, sour cream, salsa, cheese, lettuce. I know, it is 8 layers but who is counting?

@nothere78 4773596, Ranch style beans can be found in most grocery stores. They are made with a special blend of spices that creates a unique, Southwestern flavor. I hope this helps! --Editors of RecipeLion

I would think this dip would be very hot with rotel & green chilies.
