Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 1/2 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1 (2-pound) head red cabbage, cored, shredded
- 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, quartered, cored, thinly sliced
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon each caraway seeds and pepper
Instructions

In Dutch oven or large pot, melt butter, add onion; saute 5 minutes.

Add cabbage and apple. Saute 5 minutes until cabbage starts to wilt.

In bowl combine water, vinegar and remaining ingredients.

Add to cabbage mixture; cover. Simmer, stirring, 1 1/2 hours, until cabbage is very tender.
