Amish Sugar Cream Pie
I love making pie recipes from scratch and this Amish Sugar Cream Pie was so easy to make. I'm a huge fan of Amish recipes and this one really sealed the deal for me. I a sucker for creamy pies though.
Cooking Time20 min
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/2 cups half-and-half
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup butter, cut up
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 (9-inch) lightly baked pie crust
- 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
- In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar, salt and the half-and-half.
- Bring to boiling, stirring occasionally. Meanwhile, in another saucepan, combine brown sugar and cornstarch.
- Gradually whisk in hot half-and-half mixture.
- Add butter; over medium heat, cook mixture, whisking constantly, 5 minutes or until boiling and thickened. Simmer 1 minute.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour into prepared pie shell; sprinkle with cinnamon.
- Bake 20 minutes or until top of pie is golden.
- Place on wire rack; pie filling will be very loose but will thicken on cooling. Must be cooled completely before slicing.
