Ingredients
- 1 cup molasses
- 2 cups boiling water
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 unbaked 9" deep-dish pie crusts
- FOR CRUMB MIXTURE:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- pinch of salt
Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Beat egg slightly. Add 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1 cup brown sugar.

Stir in molasses and boiling water.

Put egg mixture in refrigerator and chill while making crumb mixture.

To prepare the crumb mixture, combine 2 cups flour, 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup shortening and mix until fine crumbs form.

Alternate pouring crumbs and egg mixture into one of the unbaked pie shells, starting and ending with crumbs.
