Grandma's Sloppy Joes
Sloppy joes just like grandma used to make! Thick, rich and full of flavor, these sloppy joes will please even the pickiest eater.
Notes
These sloppy joes keep for several days in the refrigerator and several months in the freezer.
Cooking MethodSlow Cooker
Ingredients
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 1/4 cup water
- 2 beef bouillion cubes
- 1/2 cup catsup
- 2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
- 3 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoons orange juice
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
- Dash cayenne pepper
- Black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef over high heat, drain grease (if any).
- Add the water and bouillion cubes. Simmer until the bouillion cubes are dissolved and the beef is tender (about 10 minutes). Add the remaining ingredients and simmer until the desired consistency is achieved.

This was very tasty, but the next time I make it I'll add a diced onion and some crushed garlic (but that's just me).

catlady6866 288727 4 I agree with the onion and garlic. It almost always goes in every savory dish I make, and especially if it's ground beef. Otherwise, this recipe looks good. I'd like to be able to make my sloppy joes without having to buy the canned sauce. I make a lot to take to potlucks and it's cheaper with this recipe. After it's done, I put it in the slow cooker on warm and it works out well. Everyone likes it but the vegetarians-I bring a veggie side dish for them!
