Ingredients
- 2 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 1/3 cup warm milk
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 1/2 cup flour
- 1 (.25-ounces) package instant dry yeast
- 2 cup ham, finely chopped
- 2 cup Mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 4 tablespoon butter
- 4 teaspoon baking soda
- coarse sea salt
Instructions
-
In a small bowl dissolve your brown sugar in your warm milk. Then in a large bowl add your yeast and then mix it with your milk mixture. Add in your flour and vegetable oil.
-
Stir until dough forms then turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead a few times, forming a smooth ball.
-
Brush the inside of a large clean bowl with olive oil. Transfer the dough to the bowl and cover tightly with plastic wrap. Then allow it to rise in a warm, draft free area for about 2 hours, or until the dough has doubled in size and bubbles appear on the surface.
-
Allow it to rise in a warm, draft free area for about 2 hours, or until the dough has doubled in size and bubbles appear on the surface.
-
Once the dough has doubled in size turn it onto a floured surface and divide it into four equal rectangular shapes
-
On the bottom third of each piece of dough place a 1/2 a cup of finely diced ham and a 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.
-
Now roll your dough into a large burrito like tube starting from the side with the ham and cheese on it. After they are rolled up pinch the ends and then allow them to sit for approximately 20 minutes.
-
Boil six cups of water with 4 teaspoons of baking soda.
-
While your water warms up cut the rolls in half and pinch the ends. Making sure the seams are pinched together as well so there are no ingredients spilling out while they boil.
-
Now add three pretzel logs to the pot of boiling water and boil for about 6 minutes. Watch the water carefully, so it doesn't boil over. The baking soda makes it "fizzy". Remove with a large flat spatula. Transfer to a plate.
-
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
-
Cut the boiled pretzel logs into bite sized pieces and then transfer them to a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake in your preheated oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
-
Remove the pretzel bites and then brush with melted butter and sprinkle the tops with coarse sea salt. Repeat the process for remaining pretzel logs. Serve warm with honey mustard, spicy mustard or ketchup.
