Timeless Molasses Bars
Skip the chocolate chips and make a sweet molasses dessert bar. Reminisce of the good old days and enjoy this recipe with a cold glass of milk. With brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger and powdered sugar, they're hard to resist.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/2 cup raisins
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar till mixture is light and fluffy. Add molasses and egg; beat well.
- Thoroughly blend flour, baking powder, ginger, salt and baking soda.
- Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with water; mix well. Stir in raisins.
- Pour mixture into greased 13 X 9 X 2-inch baking pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Cool thoroughly; sift powdered sugar on the top and cut into bars.
