1 2 3 4 Cake

This cake is an easy at 1-2-3. The ingredient proportions are laid out in the title for this delicious cake recipe. Try this with a homemade chocolate buttercream or just go for the stuff out of the can. We won't tell.

Notes

Buttermilk may be substituted for milk.



Eggs may be added at the beginning, unseparated.



If making layers (3), bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.



Variation: Line the well-greased pan with scented geranium leaves.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cup sugar
  • 3 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 eggs, separated

Instructions

  1. Cream butter (or shortening) and sugar. Add egg yolks, one at a time, and beat between each addition.
     
  2. Add vanilla and then alternately add the dry ingredients and milk. Fold in beaten egg whites. Put batter in a greased tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees F until light golden brown, about 1 1/4 hours.
