I use a potatoe pealer, freeze the butter then use the pealer on the stick of butter, make sure to cover all the cake with little shreds of butter.

I have made dump cakes for awhile now.and with every fruit you can do it with. I love to bake and make things for my friends. and each time I've made the cakes they would not quit saying how they loved it! And can't wait for the next one. I think that says enough about it.Don't you?

I have made a dump cake with angel food mix and it was delicious and I am definitely going to make another. I will try as many of these as I can. Angel food cake isn't my husband's favorite but he ate most of that cake and loved it.

Not a happy camper-Made this today and it is a disaster. Dry cake mix on top is still a dry mess. Followed directions to the letter. Do not make this until they add what this needs to make it wortk- or just pass on this one. This was for xmas eve. Have to start all over with another dessert!

The recipe I have for this is to melt the margarine or butter and drizzle all over the cake mix..Mine always turn out good when I do that.

My granny taught me how to make dump cakes. My fav is the cherry/nut. Dump cakes need to reach a boiling point in the oven for all of the liquid ingredients to absorb the cake mix (myself? I wouldnt drain all of the pineapple juice). Be patient with it...if you still have dry cake mix on the top, melt some butter and drizzle it over those areas and bake a few more minutes. Yummy treat!

i have been making this dessert for 30 years. i have found that just placing the butter pats in a few places doesnt work. i cover the entire top with butter pats. yes, it is very rich and fattening that way but serving with a good vanilla ice cream, it is wonderful. you don't eat this every day so it should be delicious.

@pattir I haven't tried this particular dump cake (although I am definitely going to) but most recipes for dump cakes you just add the ingredients in the listing (no eggs, or oil) and do not stir....just "dump" the ingredients in. While its backing it incorporates the ingredients. It's not like a normal cake consistency, but is very good :)

Do you just use the cake mix or stir in ingredients to cake mix like eggs and oil or water?
