Brown Sugar Apple Cake
Brown Sugar Apple Cake is too good to pass up. It's the perfect apple recipe to slice up for tea-time or to serve up with coffee after dinner. Fresh apples with brown sugar is a splendid combination.
Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup milk
- 3 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1 large baking apple (Macintosh, Cortland, etc.)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon butter, softened
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8x8" glass pan.
- Combine egg and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl. Beat well.
- Add flour sifted with baking soda and salt. Blend on low speed until mixed.
- Add milk, melted butter, cinnamon, vanilla and allspice, mixing into a smooth batter.
- Peel and core apple and cut off core. Thinly slice apple pieces.
- Spoon batter into greased pan, smoothing to the edges with the back of a spoon.
- Place apples in rows covering the top of the batter. Sprinkle with streusel topping. Bake for 25 minutes, until springy to the touch.
- Let cool before cutting. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.
