Maraschino Cherry Cake
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup cherry juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons almond extract
- 4 unbeaten egg whites
- 18 maraschino cherries
- 1/2 cup nuts, chopped
Instructions
Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl; add shortening, milk, cherry juice, vanilla and almond. Beat for 2 minutes. Add egg whites and beat again. Add cherries and nuts and blend in by hand. Bake in greased and floured layer pans at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
