Orange Slice Cake
This cake recipe is so sweet and decadent, the flavor of the dates works perfectly with the orange. Make it for a special birthday, or even just because. Who needs an excuse to eat cake?

Ingredients
- 1 pound candy orange slices, chopped
- 1/2 pound dried dates
- 2 cup sweetened, flaked coconut
- 2 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoon grated orange rind
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- orange liqueur to taste (optional)
Instructions
- Mix candy orange slices, dates, coconut, and pecans in 1 cup of flour. Set aside.
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
- Butter and flour a tube or bundt pan or four loaf pans. Non-stick pans are the best.
- Cream butter and the 2 cups of sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Mix in orange rind.
- Mix together baking soda and flour.
- Add flour mixture alternating with buttermilk to butter-sugar mixture. Mix well.
- Stir in candy orange mixture.
- Pour into pan of choice and bake until wooden pick inserted in cake comes out clean (time varies, depending on size of pan, almost two hours for bundt pan).
- Mix orange juice and the one cup of sugar in small sauce pan. Bring to boiling. Pour in orange liqueur to taste.
- Poke holes in hot cake and pour boiling orange juice mixture over top.
- Turn cake out of pan and brush juice mixture on sides and top of cake with a pastry brush.
