    Ingredients

    • 1 ounce knox gelatin
    • 1 c unsweetened applesauce, thick, chilled
    • 1 1/2 c unsweetened applesauce, thick
    • 4 c sugar
    • 1 orange or lemon rind, grated
    • 2 ts vanilla extract
    • 2 c walnuts, chopped

    Instructions

    Soak gelatin in 1 cup applesauce for 30 minutes. Bring 1-1/2 cups applesauce to boiling point. Add sugar and applesauce with gelatin to boiling applesauce, add grated orange or lemon rind. Boil until thick and yellow-looking, approximately 12 minutes. Remove from heat. Add vanilla and walnuts. Pour into buttered pan and let stand 8 hours or more, or overnight in refrigerator. Cut in squares and roll in powdered sugar.
