Czech Stew (with Gherkins)

Ingredients
- 2-1/2 to 3 lb. lean beef stew meat, cubed, 1-1/2 inch pieces
- 1 (4-oz.) can button mushrooms
- 1 large onion, white, sliced into rings
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 Tbs. Hungarian paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 cup sweet gherkins, drained and diced (or halved)
Instructions
Put meat into bottom of slow cooker pot. Add mushrooms, then onion slices. Combine broth, wine, paprika, salt and pepper; pour over all. Cover tightly and cook at low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-6 hours. Thicken gravy if desired. Just before serving, add gherkins and stir to heat pickles thoroughly.
