Date Square (matrimonial Cake)

"This date slice is a classic Canadian dessert. Also known by the names date square, matrimonial bars, squares or slice, matrimonial cake, date crumble, and date bar. This is my Grandma's recipe and by far, the best date square I have ever tasted! This simple recipe is especially popular during the holidays, although it's great for any time of the year. It's often served at Christmas markets, bake sales, church gatherings, and funerals. It pairs perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea."
