Modak- Ganesh Chaturthi Special
"Indian households often begin their search for a modak recipe in the days leading to the annual Hindu festival Ganesh Chaturthi. The modak is known to be the favorite food of the Hindu Elephant God, Lord Ganesh. In fact, Lord Ganesh is often lovingly referred to as Modakapriya (meaning the one who loves Modak) in Sanskrit. During the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, rituals are always concluded by an offering of modak made to Lord Ganesh. While the modak comes in various forms and shapes including a wide variety of innovations in recent times, the most popular version of modak is known as Ukadiche Modak i.e. Steamed Modaks. Ukadiche Modak is made using a rice flour shell with a filling made of a mixture of coconut and jaggery. It is prepared in the form of a sweet dumpling which can be fried or steamed as per taste."
