Lodge has a good reputation when it comes to cast-iron kitchenware, so I was excited to try out their seasoned steel product line. The Lodge Seasoned Steel 10-inch Skillet (valued at $45) is a great skillet that is high quality. When properly taken care of, this skillet can last a lifetime.
The first thing I noticed about this steel skillet was its weight. It's heavier than "normal" skillets yet lighter than cast-iron. The extra-long handle makes it easy to grasp and transfer from stove top to oven. Yes, it can go in the oven. It can handle electric, gas, and glass stove tops; induction and regular ovens, and even campfires. I haven't used this skillet outdoors yet, but I look forward to it. It's so handy to have cookware that can be used on a campfire.
The 10-inch skillet is a good size for me. It's not too big and not too small. I cooked a half pound of ground beef in it for making tacos, which fit perfectly. I can't wait to use it again. The skillet can easily handle high temperatures. After hand washing it, make sure to dry it right away and give it a light coat of vegetable oil. Then, it's ready for the next time you need it.
