    Pears Poached in Fresh Grape Juice

    Ingredients

    • 5 pounds ripe juicy grapes
    • 6 to 8 ripe but firm pears

    Instructions

    Mash grapes well and strain through a fine sieve. Put juice in saucepan and simmer until cooked down to half of original amount. Peel and core pears. Or, if desired, cut pears into halves or quarters. Poach pears in grape juice, a few at a time. Put pears in glass serving dish. Pour remaining grape juice - over pears. Chill before serving. Serve with plain heavy sweet cream or dairy sour cream sprinkled with a little ground mace. Makes 4 to 6 servings. Note: The amount of grapes may have to be increased depending on their size and juiciness.
