Brown Sugar Frosting
Ingredients
- 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1 1/2 to 2 cups confectioners' sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Melt butter in medium-sized, heavy saucepan over medium heat. When butter is melted, stir in brown sugar, reduce heat to low, and cook until sugar melts and begins to get slightly ropy, about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in milk and raise heat to medium. Cook just until the mixture comes to a boil, stirring frequently. Remove pan from heat and cool to lukewarm. Either transfer misture to medium-sized mixing bowl or leave in saucepan if it is large enought. Add confectioner's sugar to the mixture, about 1/2 cup at a time, whicking vigorously until smooth and spreadable. Whisk in vanilla extract and use immediately.

I don't think I have ever had brown sugar frosting. Now I want to try this! I think my husband would love this, I will have to try and make it for him. Does anyone have any ideas what this would be really good on? Maybe an applesauce cake, or something like that? This could be good on some types of sweet breads also, maybe cinnamon bread, or banana bread, for a more dessert type of bread. Any input would be great! Thank you!
