Did You Know?
No-bake dessert recipes are the absolute best for the summer months, and this No-Bake Chocolate Oreo Lasagna is no exception. But did you know that America's Favorite Cookie is over a hundred years old? Or how the company that produces them got its name? We all know and love the brand Nabisco for bringing us these sweet chocolate treats, but their original name was the National Biscuit Company. Na-bis-co...get it?
Anyway, on March 6th, 1912, the National Biscuit Company released three new cookies to the public. They were originally called "The Trio," but the other two cookies have since disappeared. Americans quickly fell in love with the round, crunchy cookies filled with sweet vanilla icing. It was modeled after a traditional English biscuit. We still aren't sure where Oreo got its name, though. Some theorize that it came from the Greek word "oreo" for hill or mountain, as one of the original batches was supposedly shaped like a baseball pitching mound or small hill.
