Italian Meat Sauce
Ingredients
- 1/2 C. onion slices
- 2 T. olive oil
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 1-pound cans of whole tomatoes (4 C.)
- 2 8-oz. cans of tomato paste
- 1 C. water
- 1 3-oz. can (2/3 C) broiled sliced mushrooms
- 1/4 C. chopped parsley
- 1 1/2 teaspoon oregano or sage
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon MSG (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon thyme
- 1 bay leaf
Instructions
Cook onion in hot oil until golden; add meat and garlic; brown lightly. Add remaining ingredients; simmer uncovered 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until thick. Remove bay leaf before serving over spaghetti. Top with Parmesan or Romano cheese.
