Family Friendly Macaroni and Cheese

Family-Friendly Macaroni and Cheese is perfect for any meal. This macaroni and cheese recipe is sure to become a family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 cup margarine or butter
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 3/4 cup milk
  • 8 ounce sharp process American or Swiss Cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
     
  2. Cook elbow macaroni according to package directions.  Pour into colander and drain.
     
  3. Cook onion and stir over medium heat.  Add in margarine or butter and onion.  Cook until onion is slightly tender.
     
  4. Stir in all-purpose flour, salt and pepper.
     
  5. Cook over low heat, stirring all the time until mixture is smooth and bubbly.
     
  6. Remove from heat.
     
  7. Stir in milk. Heat to boiling, stirring all the time. Boil and stir 1 minute.
     
  8. Remove from heat.
     
  9. Cut sharp process American or Swiss Cheese into small cubes and stir into milk mixture until melted.
     
  10. Place drained macaroni in casserole.
     
  11. Stir cheese sauce into macaroni.
     
  12. Spray the dish with spray oil. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes.
