Easy Chocolate Cream Pie

- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- pinch of salt
- 3 cup milk
- 4 eggs
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 ounce dark chocolate chips
- 1 chocolate cookie crust (purchased)

For the filling, in a medium saucepan combine flour and sugar. Gradually stir in milk. Cook and stir over medium-high heat until mixture is thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat; add chocolate chips and stir until chocolate is melted. Remove from heat.

Beat egg yolks with a fork. Gradually stir about 1 cup of the hot filling into the yolks.

Return all to saucepan; bring to a gentle boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes more. Remove from heat.

Stir in butter and vanilla.

Pour the hot filling into cookie crust.

Chill pie in the refrigerator for at least 12 hours. Top with whipped topping before serving.
