Malasadas

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg yeast
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 tablespoon melted shortening
  • 1/2 tsp lemon extract
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 4 tablespoon dry milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cup flour
  • 4 tablespoon sugar

Instructions

Portuguese Sweet Bread. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Sift flour. Combine dry ingredients. Beat eggs until thick adding 1 tablespoon sugar at a time. Add extract, water, yeast and shortening. Combine 2 mixtures. Let rise (about 2 hours). Drop by teaspoon in deep fat heated to 375 and fry until golden brown. Drain and cool 5 minutes; roll gently in paper bag with sugar or powder sugar.
