    Great Grandma's Tomato Apple Relish

    Ingredients

    • 2 quarts tomatoes peeled and chopped
    • 2 cups tart apples diced
    • 1 cup celery chopped
    • 1 cup white onions chopped
    • 2 medium green bell peppers seeded and chopped
    • 2 medium red bell peppers seeded and chopped
    • 1 cup vinegar
    • 2 1/4 cups sugar
    • 1 tablespoon salt
    • 1 tablespoon stick cinnamon
    • 1/2 tablespoon whole cloves
    • 2 tablespoons white mustard seed

    Instructions

    Place spices in bag, to be removed later. Put rest of ingredients in pot. Boil the mixture rapidly until it is thick and clear (it will thicken as it cools.) Pour the hot relish into sterile, HOT jars, and seal. Makes 6 1/2 pints.

    I make this. It is really good. You don't need much and it compliments beef and pork. I have not tried it on poultry except for meatloaf made with ground turkey and it was pretty good. It is great to make when the tomatoes are still going and apples are ready to be picked.
