Bacon Lover's Southern Fried Cabbage

Ingredients
- 4 strips bacon, cut into -inch pieces
- 1 head cabbage, about 3 pounds
- 1 medium onion
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg (optional)
Instructions

In a 10-inch skillet over medium high heat, cook the bacon until it is slightly crisp. Remove from the pan with a slotted spoon onto paper towels to drain; set aside.

In the same pan, melt the butter and saute the onion until soft, then add the cabbage and spices. Toss to coat the cabbage then reduce heat to low and cover. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes.

Add the reserved bacon and toss before serving.
