    Navy Bean Soup

    Ingredients

    • 1 lb. dried navy beans (soaked per package directions)
    • 2 meaty ham hocks or large ham bone with meat on it
    • 1 bay leaf
    • 1 clove garlic, chopped
    • 1/4 c. chopped onion
    • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 8 cups water

    Instructions

    Place soaked beans in stock pot. Cover well with 8 cups water. Add bay leaf, garlic, onion, pepper and pork. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer about 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Remove hocks or ham bone and cut the meat into bite-sized pieces; add back to soup. Add more water if needed. Heat through.
