Whole Wheat Refried Bean Burgers

Ingredients

  • 4 whole wheat bread slices
  • 16 ounce can vegetarian refried beans
  • 1 cup millet or brown rice; cooked
  • 1/4 cup oats, quick-cooking
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon arrowroot
  • 3 teaspoon onion, finely minced

Instructions

  1. Process bread, one slice at a time, in a dry blender to form soft crumbs.
     
  2. Mix all ingredients together well. Form into 8 patties.
     
  3. Brown on each side in a vegetable-oil sprayed non-stick skillet. Serve as is or on whole wheat buns with lettuce, sprouts and ketchup, if desired.
