Cheater's Wonton Mozzarella Sticks
With this easy appetizer recipe, making homemade Mozzarella cheese sticks has never been easier. These are called Cheater's Wonton Mozzarella Sticks because there are a few "cheat" ingredients that make the process much quicker. String cheese, wonton wrappers and egg whites are all you need to make this crispy fried delight, so there's no need for a messy batter. When they're done, the outside will be deliciously crispy and the cheese perfectly melted.

I really like this recipe and love the idea of using the wonton wrappers in place of breadcrumbs. I also appreciate the comment about adding some pepperoni and baking them instead of frying. I'd like to try them with some thin sliced ham in place of the pepperoni, and experiment with some other cheeses. I'd also sprinkle some garlic powder on the wrappers before assembling them.

I love mozzarella sticks and a new way to make them sounds fun and easy. I have never worked with wonton wrappers before though and the thought makes me a bit nervous. Are they terribly fussy work with? Also cutting the cheese stick into three parts makes me imagine these are very small? Thanks for the help.

This is such a great and quick recipe! String cheese and wonton wrappers simplify this recipe greatly. Thank you for the tip about baking these. I am always looking for ways to avoid frying foods so it's great to know that these can be baked!

I recently made a baked version of this with pepperoni inside. I've done the fried versions before, and while they're a bit crispier that way, baking them still does wonders. They were delicious. You can even sprinkle them with seasoning and Parmesan if you bake them.
