Well, now I know what I've been doing wrong in my many attempts to make KFC's coleslaw...buttermilk! I've never heard of Tarragon vinegar before prn, but now I'm curious about where I would even find such a thing. Maybe if I were to infuse the vinegar with the herbs and let it marinate that may work. I can't wait to try this recipe...I've always been a huge fan of KFC coleslaw.

The picture here sure looks like the KFC Coleslaw. I am a fan and when I visit KFC I always select the slaw as one of my sides. Reading the reviews and still interested in trying it. Has anyone cut the recipe down? This makes a whole lot of slaw.

Not very close copycat. No tarragon vinegar so there is no need to go further.

The tarragon vinegar is used to replace the lemon juice. Hope you give it a try in your test kitchen. Thanks.

This is good. I didn't use the onion. I've seen other recipes for KFC coleslaw and it never had onion. It did not need it. I also chopped it by hand. I may depend on the food processor. My food processor shreds it too fine to where it turns mushy and I like my coleslaw veggies crisp. It takes longer, but I prefer the outcome. This is great for a party and you can make it a day before and it taste.s even better

This coleslaw is my husband's absolute favourite so I can't wait to try it! I'm guessing the buttermilk must be the ingredient that sets this apart from other coleslaw recipes. This will be great to make next time I cook cabbage rolls since I always seem to have cabbage left over . This would be great to bring to a picnic or potluck as well. Yum!!

KFC coleslaw is my absolute favorite. I buy it for any party we are having and I'm so excited to find this copycat recipe. I would definitely use the prepared veggies and save some time. I always wonder where everyone finds buttermilk though. I never see it at the grocery store and I always have to make my own. It sure would be nice to find that all made in the store.

KFC has one of the best cole slaws around. However, right now my husband and I are living in an empty nest. I'll have to save this recipe and use when the family comes for a gathering. I may be able to pull of cutting the recipe in half though.

The KFC Coleslaw recipe is one of my favorite coleslaws. I am thrilled that I found this. I am going to make it this weekend for company. This sounds so easy to make and definitely is one of the better coleslaws that I have had. Can't wait to try it. This will be one of my recipes for summer picnics.

I would like to make this coleslaw. I love KFC coleslaw. I agree with buying the prepackaged coleslaw in a bag, then this salad becomes quick and easy and no fuss. I always wondered how KFC made their dressing and can't wait to try it. It was always a mystery to me what made the dressing sweet. Someone once told me it was condensed milk! I'm glad I found this copycat recipe.

When I make my copycat KFC coleslaw, I start with the already cut coleslaw in the bag, then I add the other ingredients. I am not a fan of shredding cabbage or carrots myself, so I save myself the time. It is definitely better when it has soaked overnight, and it is wonderful on a pulled pork sandwich.

Sorry, but I think 8 1/8 th cup is a little extreme. Just say 8 cups or 8 1/2 cups. Seems a little odd. Thanks.

KFC uses tarragon vinegar and salad dressing instead of mayo. No milk, buttermilk, or lemon juice.

The secret to the KFC knock-off is using tarragon vinegar, not lemon juice.

FORGET THE SUGAR! If it needs sweetening use a 1/2 t. of Stevia.

@ hightechdad2002 4861688: I think the 2.5 tsp pepper mentioned in the earlier comments referred to a typo that has since been corrected. We're glad you enjoyed this cole slaw recipe! -- RecipeLion Editor

I just read the receipe and I did not read anything about 2 1/2 tsp of pepper in it. All I read was 1/8 tsp of pepper and I even printed up the receipe for my wife who likes the KFC Cole Slaw, myself as well. I hope you people have better luck with your next batch of Cole Slaw.

I tried this recipe awhile back and loved it! I thought it tastes pretty close to KFC's coleslaw and use this recipe often. I don't usally have buttermilk on hand so I make my own sour milk and absolutely love the tang it gives the slaw....yum.

I used to manage a KFC and like the coleslaw but i always add some horseradish to it. When i get the coleslaw i add it in without anyone seeing. Everyone always says " why does the coleslaw taste so much better from KFC when you buy it ". After i get people hooked on it then i tell them what i had put in it. They are amazed ! Most say they don't like horseradish, but sure is good in the coleslaw !

Hey People-No need to throw this recipe away-common sense tells you that this recipe shouldn't have 2 1/2 tsp of pepper. Use the half tsp. It must of been a typo error. I think its very good and keeps a long time!!!!!!!!! Try it again!!!!

Was the amount of pepper a type-0 because it was way too much. Threw out the slaw and the recipe! Keep trying because I love KFC's coleslaw!

God awful!!! KFCs cole slaw does not have onions and has a bit of vinegar..Also the amount of pepper is way to much. won't make this again. I reduced the amount of pepper by about a third--didn't help!!!!

I fixed this the other day and it tasted exactly like KFC's recipe. One thing I noticed is you must use a head of cabbage shredded yourself and shred it fine. You cannot use pre-shredded because it does not taste the same.

I rated it so low because as is, it is terrible. This is absolutely NOTHING like KFC's cole slaw. I've only made it once, but it seems to me that the problem is the immense amount of pepper called for in the recipe. Maybe only one half of a teaspoon would be better?
