Sweet and Sour Meatballs
Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- 3 pounds ground beef
- bread crumbs or matzah meal (equivalent to 1 piece of bread per lb of meat)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 2 16-oz cans tomato sauce
- 1/2 to 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup white sugar
- 3-7 tablespoons grape jelly
- 4 tablespoons lemon juice
Instructions
Wet bread (if using bread and not crumbs or matzah meal), mix the bread or the crumbs/meal in with the meat, eggs and spices. Mix well. Shape meat into meatballs -- not too small as they boil down a bit. Boil water (1/2 fill a large pot with water) Drop meatballs into boiling water. Boil for 20-30 minutes. Skim fat off the top. Add the following tomato sauce, sugars, jelly and lemon juice. Gently boil until meatballs are done -- about 20 mins. They get better after they sit for a day or so in the frige in their sauce!

If you are looking for an appetizer for a party or a potluck, this recipe is for you. Meatballs are popular as appetizers so everyone will enjoy eating them. This is quick and easy to prepare. When making this, I would use lean ground beef, bread crumbs, and unsalted tomato sauce. These meatballs could also be served as a main dish at home. They would be delicious served over rice.
