Yeast Biscuits
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2 tsps baking powder
- 2 tsps sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 package yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
Mix dry ingredients, cut in shortening. Meanwhile, soften yeast in warm water. Add milk and softened yeast mixture to dry ingredients and shortening mixture. Mix well (dough tends to be really sticky). Dump onto well floured board, roll 1/2 -3/4 inch thick and cut into biscuits and place on cookie sheet. Allow to rise for 45 minutes before baking at 450 F for 8-12 minutes. Cream Gravy pork sausage (spiced) 2 tbsp butter or sausage grease 1/4 cup flour garlic salt pepper 2 cups milk Cook sausage and drain. Then, either retain a portion of the drippings or melt the butter and add the flour. Let simmer a while and then add the milk. Let heat until starch gelatinization occurs (gets thick). Season to your liking --the more pepper, salt and garlic, the better. Be careful not to scorch the gravy. Add sausage to gravy after thickened to your desired consistency. If it doesn't get thick enough, add some more flour (dispersed in milk or water).
