Ingredients: 1 lb. butter; 6 eggs, separated; 3 cup brown sugar; 5 cup flour; 2 tsp baking powder; 2 tsp cinnamon; 2 tsp vanilla; 1 pound dates; 1 pound English walnuts; 1 cup black walnuts; Juice of 1 lemon

Hermit Cake

Ingredients

1 lb. butter
6 eggs, separated

2 tsps baking powder
2 tsps cinnamon
2 tsps vanilla
1 pound dates
1 pound English walnuts
1 cup black walnuts
Juice of 1 lemon

Instructions

Cream butter and sugar, add egg yolks, vanilla, and lemon juice. Sift flour, baking powder, and cinnamon together. Flour the dates and nuts with 1/2 of the flour mixture. Fold into the sugar mixture, then fold in beaten egg whites. Bake for 2 1/2 hours at 250 degrees.
