Hermit Cake
Ingredients
- 1 lb. butter
- 6 eggs, separated
- 3 cups brown sugar
- 5 cups flour
- 2 tsps baking powder
- 2 tsps cinnamon
- 2 tsps vanilla
- 1 pound dates
- 1 pound English walnuts
- 1 cup black walnuts
- Juice of 1 lemon
Instructions
Cream butter and sugar, add egg yolks, vanilla, and lemon juice. Sift flour, baking powder, and cinnamon together. Flour the dates and nuts with 1/2 of the flour mixture. Fold into the sugar mixture, then fold in beaten egg whites. Bake for 2 1/2 hours at 250 degrees.
