Spooned Halva
Ingredients
- 6 tb butter
- 1 c cream of wheat
- 1/2 c chopped nuts or pignolia nuts (optional)
- 2 c water
- 1 c sugar
- cinnamon
Instructions
Melt butter in a deep pan; add cream of what and nuts. With wooden spoon stir over moderate heat until golden, about 10 minutes. Meanwhile bring water and sugar to a slow boil. Cook 3 minutes. Pour syrup slowly over cream of what and simmer, stirring until slightly thickened. Remove from heat. Cover; let stand 10 minutes. Shape with individual molds turn out onto plates and sprinkle with cinnamon or fill ungreased 9 inch square pan and sprinkle with cinnamon. Cut into sqaures and serve. I believe this is called spooned halva because in the villages in Greece they use a spoon to shape the halva.
