    Cream Cheese Refrigerator Cookies

Buttermilk and cream cheese add a tangy, bittersweet flavor to this holiday dessert. Cream Cheese Refrigerator Cookies are great on winter nights when you're tired of chocolate and oatmeal.

    Notes

I modify the recipe slightly by omitting the buttermilk and doubling the cream cheese. I then drop in spoonfulls onto an ungreased cookie sheet.

    Ingredients

    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 well beaten egg
    • 3 ounces package cream cheese, softened
    • 2 tablespoons buttermilk or yogurt
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 2 cups sifted flour
    • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon double-acting baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt

    Instructions

    1. Blend until creamy the butter, sugar and egg.

    2. Beat cream cheese into the butter mixture with buttermilk and vanilla. Beat in flour, soda, baking powder and salt.

    3. After being chilled (a couple of hours or so) this dough may be rolled to paper thinness, cut into shapes and baked.

    4. Sprinkle before baking with sugar and cinnamon.

    5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and bake from 12 to 15 minutes.
