Easy Sugar Cookies with Orange

"We had a very cold winter this year. I don't remember when we had such dark and murky days, forcing us to stay inside. There were episodes of the wind blowing mightily, biting as sharply as a knife, taking one's breath away. On several occasions, it lasted for over a week. These Sugar Cookies were my way of calling for warmer days. The orange zest flavour reminds me of the spring, and the enticing colour invites one to make 'Primavera' dishes every single day. I would not anticipate spring in normal circumstances but I was given some oranges which had been grown in a container in a hothouse, shielded from the icy winds in the southern part of a private house. They were picked just a few days before they were given to me. So, faced with the fragrance and softness of these beautiful fruits, I tried combining an old Easy Sugar Cookies recipe and orange zest to make some sweets for our cookie jar! I usually make smaller cookies, for reasons unknown; but, if I think about it harder, both my mother and grandmother used to make small sized desserts. They even cut sponge cakes into small bars so I guess this is the reason. Everything cut 'piccolo' here."
