Big Mac Copycat Burger
Do you love a Big Mac but are tired of fast food? Let’s make it at home! This version is more nutritious and, in my opinion, tastier. This is a copycat burger, but I’ve made a few adjustments. Instead of placing the onions on the burger, I add them to the dressing. This keeps them from falling out and it also gives the dressing some extra flavor. The original Big Mac only has cheese on the bottom patty, but I’ve added cheese to both, because the more cheese the better, according to me.

Ingredients
- My Big Mac Dressing (makes 4 Tablespoons [60 ml])
- 3 tablespoons (45 ml) mayonnaise
- 1/2 tablespoon (8 ml) yellow mustard
- 1 1/2 tablespoon (22 g) finely chopped pickles
- 1 1/2 tablespoon (15 g) finely chopped yellow onion
- 1/4 teaspoon white wine vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
Burgers- 12 ounces (340 g) ground beef
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) extra virgin olive oil, divided
- Salt, to taste
- Ground black pepper, to taste
- 4 slices Cheddar cheese
- 4 sesame seed hamburger buns, plus 2 hamburger bun bottoms
- 2 handfuls finely shredded lettuce
- 6 pickle slices
INSTRUCTIONS
-
Make the dressing. In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, mustard, pickles, onion, vinegar, garlic powder and paprika. Refrigerate the dressing until ready to serve.
-
Divide the ground beef into quarters, and roll each quarter into a ball.
-
In a large pan, place 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of the olive oil, and heat over high heat.
-
Once the pan is hot, add the balls of beef, leaving room in between each. Use anything hard and flat (such as a burger press, spatula or the bottom of a pot) with some parchment paper in between to press the patties as flat as possible. Season the top side of each patty with salt and black pepper.
-
Cook the patties until the bottoms have a dark brown crust, about 2 minutes. Flip the patties, and cook for 2 minutes more. Remove the burgers from the pan, and immediately place a slice of cheese on top of each patty.
-
In the same pan, add the remaining 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of olive oil, and place the burger buns (tops and bottoms) cut side down. Cook until golden brown, about 2 minutes. Repeat with the extra bottom burger buns. Remove the toasted buns, and set aside.
