Harry's Pick Me up Cocktail
"Seasonal twist on Harry's pick me up cocktail vintage cocktail recipe from Harry Craddock's (1930) The Savoy Cocktail Book using homemade grenadine made from scratch with fresh in season pomegranate juice, homemade pomegranate molasses, rose water. Craddock's more famous pick me up cocktails the Corpse revivers, his little known Hoop la! cocktail and this Harry's pick me up were all designed as a cure all in part for hangovers. The pick me ups have in common a boozy base of gin or brandy and a sweet-sour balance using lemon juice and a sweetener such as orange liqueur, Lillet blanc or grenadine. This Harry's pick me up is a delicious sour style brandy cocktail that uses freshly squeezed lemon juice as the souring agent and grenadine as a sweetener and flavouring, topped with champagne bubbles for an extra tart effervescent pick me up. My version uses a bespoke grenadine that adds a delicate rose water flavour, fresh exotic pomegranate juice and complex sugars from homemade pomegranate molasses, along with a bright uplifting lemon twist garnish. It's delicious as a before dinner drink or aperitif."
