Homemade Apple Pie

Ingredients
- pie crust
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 tablespoon shortening
- 4 1/2 tablespoons ice water
- 1 1/2 sticks of butter
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 10 apples
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
Instructions
- Mix pie crust in usual manner, chill 60 minutes, roll into two rounds.
- Add and mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
- Add butter and vanilla extract.
- Peel and dice apples. Mound in pie crust.
- Dot pie with butter and sprinkle with vanilla. Shell should be filled completely with apples and slightly mounded in center, add more apples if necessary.
- Top with second crust, cut creative design in top. Cover fluted edges w/strips of foil to keep from browning too quickly.
- Bake at 450 degrees F, 10 minutes.
- Reduce oven to 350 degrees F, bake 10 minutes.
- Remove foil from edges and bake until brown (30 minutes).
