This is a great recipe!!! I have also been making it for years, in different ways... It is a easy, less messy way of cooking!!!! You can also literally make this on the go.... I do mean literally.... Say you're going on a trip, but you want to feed your family a healthy meal.... Prepare your food the same, but use heavyweight aluminum foil, wrapped up securely, place on your vehicles manifold, secure it safely with bailing wire.... When you arrive at your destination, your meal will be cooked and ready to serve! This method can also be done making a meatloaf, an many other family favorites!!!!

I have been making these for years! But I use raw potatoes sliced thin. I wrap the dinner and foil in a dampened paper towel and then wrap it again with a 2nd piece of foil. The dampened paper towel seems to help prevent burning the meat. Great for camping or on the BBQ! And no cleanup!

Seems a lot of your contributors are inappropriately appropriating the term "Hobo". I don't think the "hobo" larder contains all the ingredients required for these 'hobo' recipes.
