Bacon Wrapped Oreos
It all started on August 20, 2020, which was National Bacon Lover’s day, when I posted a recipe video for these Bacon-Wrapped Oreos. I couldn’t believe how much attention this recipe received and the number of times that it was shared on multiple platforms. So many people were making Bacon-Wrapped Oreos that it received attention from news outlets and published food magazines. This recipe continues to be one of the most popular unexpected desserts to make on the smoker. Bacon-Wrapped Oreos are a unique and tasty treat that combines the sweetness of the chocolate sandwich cookies with the savory saltiness of bacon. Strips of bacon are wrapped around Oreo cookies, seasoned with BBQ rub and smoked until the bacon is crispy. They can be served warm or at room temperature and are a perfect treat for parties, cookouts or any occasion where you want to serve a fun and unusual dessert.
Pellets: Cherry
Serves12
Ingredients
- 24 Oreo cookies
- 12 slices thin-cut bacon
- 2 teaspoons (7 g) your favorite BBQ rub
INSTRUCTIONS
-
Preheat your pellet grill to 275°F (135°C).
-
Cut the bacon slices in half, widthwise. Loosely wrap one half slice of bacon around each cookie, and place them on a wire rack, bacon seam-side down. You don’t want to wrap the bacon too tight around the cookies, as the bacon will shrink and tighten up while smoking. Season the tops of the bacon with the BBQ rub.
-
Place the wire rack on the grill and smoke for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until the bacon is cooked to your liking. Remove the wired rack from the grill, and let the Bacon-Wrapped Oreos cool for 5 minutes on the rack. Transfer to a serving platter and serve.
