I think that this is such a great idea that I went completely overboard and now have 2 large and 12 small crusts in the freezer. This means that, whenever I want them, I will simply defrost them and VOILA! there will be a delicious dessert pie crust just waiting for whatever filling I wish to use!

This is definitely curious. Based on other readings, this is for pre-baked pie crust recipes only. My concern would be the sweetness of the mix. The recipe is used with a mouse filling and another example is given with a cheesecake, neither being overly sweet by nature. I have a tart recipe that isn't too sweet, I think will go great with this. As a trial anyway. I'm not sure how a savory filling would go, but sweet and savory can be a lovely combination.

I would not in a million years have thought to make pie crust with a cake mix! It's brilliant! I am wondering if anyone has tried this and if the consistency is the same as regular pie crust and also if it would be good for use in a chicken pot pie type of recipe or does it taste too cake-ish?

This is different. This would work well for people that have a hard time making pie crusts from scratch. I never would have thought of using a cake mix for a pie crust. And if you want a chocolate crust, use a chocolate cake mix. Since the dough is sweeter than regular pie crusts, it would be great with cream pie fillings.
