My mom makes delicious homemade applesauce that our family just loves! One tip I have learned from her to share with all of you is to let the apples do the work first before you add all of the sweeteners! Usually the apples are sweet enough that you may not need any (or as much) sugar and other ingredients. Also, if you have plenty of time, try using a slow cooker on low heat for the most tender apples!

There really is nothing in the world quite as yummy as homemade applesauce. Personally, I like my applesauce a little chunky so I'll usually only puree half and mix in the other half of apples afterward. But, before all of the mixings happen...my apples are cooked with raisins so they'll get super plump and juicy. I don't think I've ever used Star Anise before...what kind of flavor does it bring to the applesauce?

This applesauce had a great flavor- almost like a light apple pie filling! I like extra-chunky applesauce, so next time I will probably add big chunks of apple.

This sauce was a little too sweet for my tastes, but I loved the texture! Next time I make it, i'll probably include more granny smith apples to increase the tartness.

I love applesauce!! It is actually one of my favorite foods ever! There is something so wonderful about going to the apple orchard and using the apples you picked to make applesauce in the fall. I really like the texture of this particular applesauce! @nashmeow has it right when she says it's the perfect combo of smooth and chunky. YUM!

Homemade applesauce recipes are always so much better than anything you can buy in a store, and this recipe is no exception. The applesauce is just the right combination of sweet and tart, and the texture is just right - not too smooth, just chunky enough. A new staple in my home!
